Kevin Reynolds – Father

  • What is your name:
    • Kevin Reynolds
  • What is your profession:
    • Medical Supplies
  • What county do you live in/is your case in:
    • Thurston
  • How often are you allowed to see your child:
    • I am lucky. I get to have my son at home 4 overnights a week.
  • What do you miss most about time with your child:
    • What I miss about having time with my son is the daily routine, coming home, dinner, bath and brushing his teeth, reading books and bedtime. That said, with as much time as I have with my son I am not one to complain. He deserves time with his mom to do these things as well, and thankfully he has that.
  • Why do you support equal shared parenting:
    • I support shared parenting for two reasons. First because I was a child of divorce. I was caught in the middle. Second, because my children have not been put in that situation, and they have been far happier. They though, as it was for me, had no rights in Family Court. If Family Court had their way I would have only been an every other weekend dad.

    • I have a younger son now who just turned five. This time I did have to deal with Family Court and it was not a positive experience. It woke me to just how bad things can get it court and how few rights children have in our state. In most states a child can decide where they want to live when they are teenagers. In Washington, they have to be 18. This means children have no voice unless someone can hire a GAL on their behalf. This means the process can drag on for years at great expense.

    • In an age of that is screaming for equality, why is the issue of Shared Parenting not being discussed? It would have been better for me as a child, and it has been better for my kids. I am happy for them and I want their children to know they can be parents more than four days a month.
